The Weekend Before CDL School Starts...AKA The Calm Before The Storm

Well here it is the Saturday night before I start CDL school. I received the confirmation call from the school Wednesday to make sure I am still set to start on Monday and give me my arrival time. I need to be there at 7:30 a.m. I honestly have no idea what my schedule will look like but am hopeful I will learn more Monday. I was told I can likely go over and do my DOT exam during my lunch break Monday at noon.

Once I have the physical completed, I can take the Fed Med form along with my passport to the DMV to get my CDL permit printed. The day I passed the written tests I could have had my permit printed, but without having the Fed Med card there would have been a restriction on it so I would have paid $30 that day for the permit, and then once I got the Fed Med form from my physical I would have had to go back and get permit reprinted without the restriction and pay an additional $14 so the DMV desk clerk recommended waiting to have it printed until after my DOT physical was complete and they would just keep it on file until then.

Normally you would go get your physical done prior to getting your permit, but the DOT physical is included in the tuition cost for the school I am attending and is only covered under that tuition if you do the physical once you are in school so that is why I waited. It seems kinda backward but shouldn't be a problem unless something goes wrong with the permit being on file or if I don't pass my physical for some reason. Hopefully that all goes smoothly.

There are a few recruiting events with different trucking companies this week too at the school so I hope I can take part in those to learn more about what those companies have to offer new drivers. I am not going to wait too long before I start applying to some different companies so that hopefully when I am done with school and have my CDL I can get going on training with a company as soon as possible and start earning a paycheck.
